SOIL REQUIREMENT : While it can be grown in all soil types, it also grows perfectly in loamy-sandy soils with good drainage. It grows much better in moderately acidic and neutral soils.
PLANTING TIME: Sorghum sudan grass, which is generally planted as the second crop in hot regions, can be planted from late May to mid-July. In a study conducted in the Aegean region, sorghum sudan grass planted in mid-June reached the highest yield performance.
FERTILIZER REQUIREMENT: 25 kg Nitrogen, 10 kg Phosphorus, 10 kg Potassium per decare is recommended. These amounts may vary depending on the amount of organic matter, structure and irrigation amount of the field. Half of the nitrogen should be given before planting and the other half should be given when the plant height reaches 35-40cm. In conditions where irrigation is insufficient, nitrogen fertilization should be reduced.
FIELD PREPARATION: For successful planting, the physical structure of the soil must be corrected and the soil surface must be thoroughly crumbled. For this reason, tillage should not be done when soil moisture is high. In light-textured soils, the soil surface should be thoroughly crumbled using tools such as disc harrows and rakes. In heavy textured soils, the planting bed should be thoroughly prepared with tools such as rotovators and rototillers. The field should not be too loose.
OCTOBER:
CARE AND CULTIVATION: Irrigation will greatly increase yield. It should be watered at least once after each cutting. If possible, irrigation can be done by adding 25kg/da of Ammonium Nitrate after harvesting. It is highly tolerant to drought. However, it should be irrigated for high grass yield and quality. Sorghum sudangrass hybrid has higher grass yield than sorghum and is nutritionally better quality than sudangrass. At the same time, it develops faster and can come into shape 40 - 45 days after planting. Ideally, mowing should be done when the height is 170-180 cm and at least 10 cm of stubble should be left. As mowing time is delayed, the nutritional value of the grass decreases. Its digestibility decreases. It can yield 2-2.5 tonnes/da of green grass for each shape.
